This week is Homecoming, a celebration of our University and an opportunity for faculty, staff, students and alumni to come together for any number of pride-filled events. The theme of this year’s Homecoming is “Gators Throwback Mix Tape,” a nod to the University’s rich history and the accomplishments of past and present Gators. A few highlights are featured below, but other notable events include the Office Decorating Competition, the President’s Barbecue that I am hosting on Oct. 15; Throwback Thursday at UHD Northwest on Oct. 17; and sporting events throughout the week at the Student Life Center.
Homecoming wouldn’t be possible without the efforts of Student Affairs, Student Activities, Sports & Fitness, and many other departments and organizations. I thank those involved for supporting ever-growing school spirit on campus, as well as all Gators for making UHD a university to be proud of.
Dr. Juan Sánchez Muñoz
This year, UHD hosts its first Homecoming events in UHD’s eSports Lounge (an alumni tournament on Oct. 17 that begins at 7 p.m.) and at the new Sports Fields (flag football and kickball on Oct. 15, and alumni soccer games on Oct. 17). These Homecoming firsts are a reflection of UHD’s commitment to enhancing our campus and providing faculty, staff, students, and alumni with new spaces to socialize and grow as Gators.
Tail-Gatoring – Oct. 19
Homecoming isn’t complete without this annual tradition. UHD’s Gator Community will transform the city parking lots on Girard Street into an unforgettable festival experience. Games, refreshments, cook-off contests, and a Gator Kids Zone are just some of the reasons to bring your family to this event. And, it’s just the warm-up for UHD’s big men’s basketball game against Lone Star College-Cy Fair at 4 p.m. in the Student Life Center and The Gathering, our concluding Homecoming party at 8 p.m. in A300.
